AMI Debug for EFI is a professional firmware-debugging tool focused on the EFI/UEFI environment. It helps platform and BIOS/firmware engineers diagnose issues from the earliest boot phases (SEC and PEI) through DXE and into UEFI drivers and applications. The tool exposes low-level system state, enabling efficient bring-up, faster root-cause analysis, and improved firmware reliability.

Key capabilities include:

  • Breakpoints, single-step execution, and inspection of memory, I/O, and CPU registers
  • Visibility into UEFI data structures such as HOBs, PPIs, protocols, and handles
  • Support for common debug transports (for example, serial/UART and USB debug, depending on platform support)
  • Symbol-aware debugging with integration into typical toolchains and build outputs
  • Non-intrusive tracing that reduces the need for ad hoc instrumentation

Typical use requires a target build with debug symbols and board-level enablement for the chosen debug transport. While often used with EDK II- and Aptio-based firmware, applicability depends on the platform’s firmware configuration and available interfaces.

AMI Debug for EFI is developed by American Megatrends, Inc.. The most popular version of this product among our users is 1.0.
